Glacier Park International Airport (GPIA) is preparing for an important runway rehabilitation project to extend the runway’s service life and maintain safe, efficient air travel in the Flathead Valley. Construction will occur in July 2026, with additional nighttime work in September 2026. During these work periods, GPIA will have runway closures Monday at 6:00 p.m. – Friday at 10:00 a.m. The runway will reopen for flights every weekend (Friday–Monday), to align with peak travel demand and maintain service during construction.

Alternate ways to reach Glacier
Missoula Montana Airport (MSO) — about 2.5 hours south of West Glacier. Strong rental car availability and growing nonstop service.
Spokane International Airport (GEG) — about 4.5 hours west, in Washington. A solid option for travelers connecting from the West Coast, with a wide range of carriers.
Helena Regional Airport (HLN) — about 3 hours southeast, a convenient choice for some itineraries.
Great Falls International Airport (GTF) — about 3 hours east, another regional alternative with rental cars on site.
Amtrak Empire Builder — daily service with stops at West Glacier and Whitefish, connecting from Seattle, Spokane, and points east including Chicago and St. Paul. A scenic, low-stress way to arrive without flying into GPIA.
Calgary International Airport (YYC), about 5 hours north in Alberta, Canada. It’s the largest airport of all the alternatives, with the most flight options, and a natural fit if you’re also visiting Canada. Please allow time for the border crossing and bring a valid passport.
Bozeman Yellowstone International Airport (BZN), about 5 to 5.5 hours southeast, Montana’s busiest airport and an ideal choice if you’re pairing Glacier with Yellowstone.
